FIBO: Installation Overview

A beginner’s overview to installing your waterproof wall system.

Every successful remodel project begins with preparation. If you are reading this article, you are already on the right track to prepare for your project. We also recommend checking out the Installation Videos and Product Guide before you begin. Once you are ready to begin, you will need to have the following tools and materials handy: your FIBO wall panels, adhesive, a level, measuring tape, saw, drill and screws, spacer blocks or shims, knife, and safety gear.

The first step will be to clean your surface. Make sure that your surface is free from old coverings, nails, screws, etc. It is important to make sure that your wall is moisture-free. Having a surface that is clean, dry, and smooth is vital to the success of the adhesive bond. Fibo panels can be installed on existing walls or directly on the wall studs.

Once your wall is ready you are set to move on to the panels! Assuming you have already measured the height and width of your wall to calculate how many panels you will need, you will then cut the panels based on your calculations. Fibo panels are easy to cut with a regular fine-tooth saw. For specific measurements based on your shower and/or bath set-up, checkout page 7 of the Product guide.

Now it is time to start building your wall! For the best results, it is important to use Fibo products when it comes to adhesive. The “Fibo Seal” is specifically designed for sealing the Aqualock click and profiles, which help proper bonding of the Fibo products, shower trays, and bathtubs. One tube of Fibo Seal is enough for approximately 65.61 running feet (about three packs of panels). As a general rule, you’ll need one tube of Fibo Seal (per three panels) and one package of screws (per five packs of panels). Once your adhesive is set, you may begin installing your panels beginning at the bottom and working your way up to the top. Ensure that each panel is both level and straight, and don’t be afraid to adjust the spaces if necessary. You will want to make sure to press each panel firmly against the wall and hold for a few seconds to ensure a firm bond with the adhesive. Lastly, always drill and secure the panels according to the instructions.

Finally, on to the finishing touches! At this point, your shower already has a brand new look but may be just a little dirty from installation. Use the Fibo Wipes to clean the base, and remove excess with Fibo Clean and Fibo Sealing Tool. You are then set to apply sealant to the base profile and corners. For more detailed instructions, remember to check out the guides linked in the beginning of this article.

With any new product the question is usually “how does this work?”. We hope that this short blog gives you a general overview of the Fibo installation process. While this process is simple, it is still susceptible to error and must be installed with care. This is why we have a certification process for every installer of Fibo. If you are interested in getting certified yourself, reach out to sign-up for a training day!
